The Unit Two theme project was a big hit.  All of the plays were amazing and the children enjoyed watching and participating in each one.  Great job!

Our fun Thanksgiving luncheon will be on Thursday, November 21 at 11:45-12:30.  Thanks to all of the parents who volunteered to bring something for the celebration or to help set up and serve.

Our first field trip to the Port of Long Beach is Friday, November 22.  It is a really fun trip.  Please check your child's green folder the trip slip and information sheet.

We are off for an entire week starting Monday, November 25.  Phew!  Enjoy the time with your family.

Language Arts:
We have been reading plays in class in preparation for the Unit 2 theme project.  The plays do not need to be long so please keep it simple!  Think of it a a conversation and the writing component of the assignment is capturing the dialogue of each character.

Health:
Room 9 will enjoy a healthy breakfast on Friday, October 25 at 8:30 AM to culminate our unit Health Choices, Healthy Me.  A letter will go home on Monday for parents to donate food item as well as to set up and serve.

Math:
We are reviewing place value in two-digit and three-digit numbers, telling time and writing time in "digital clock" notation, and reviewing coin value and exchange among coins.  For a fun, online money game try, http://www.practicalmoneyskills.com/games/peterpigs/

Art in Class:

We took a nature hike around our campus and gathered fallen leaves, bark, twigs and mini pine cones.  The idea was taking from Family Fun magazine.  Visit familyfunmag.com for more ideas.

Friendship Unit One Wrap Up

Each child gave their report on their family member who they also considered to be a good friend.  Great job done by all!  Many students went above and beyond by including a poster with drawings/photos of their family member, clay art, and regalia.  All posters/art are on display in the classroom.  Keep up the good work!

What a Healthy Day!

Today, we had a Noah's mom come to class to make a special healthy treat with the children.  We made banana "cupcakes".  We cut bananas in think slices and piped peanut butter  on top for "icing".  The treat was served with whipped cream, coconut, and other fresh fruit (we were careful with allergies).  If you would like to try the treat at home, here's a link with directions.  http://www.onesmileymonkey.com/recipes-2/fun-banana-no-bake-cupcakes/

After the treat, we had a special presentation that was arranged by Sadie's mom.  Toni Branner met with all of the second grade students which was a great culminating event for our health unit.  Look for an announcement soon about our healthy breakfast party.  Thanks again to Anne and Talia.

Language arts packets will begin again next week.  The children did a great job presenting their friend projects.

Next week is the end of our first language arts unit, "Friendship".  There will not be a language arts packet for that week.  We will be reviewing skills taught in unit 1 to prepare for the their 1st test.
